The Grand Prairie police are investigating the fatal traffic accident that killed two bicyclists Sunday morning about 8:20 a.m. near the intersection of West Camp Wisdom and Erin Lane.

Meredith Hatch, 38, and Mike Alfaro, 36, both of Mansfield, were members of a cyclist group training for an event.  The pair was riding their bicycles east bound in the right hand lane of West Camp Wisdom Road when they were struck by a SUV driven by Kenneth Bain, 24, of Duncanville, who was also driving east bound in the right hand lane.   The impact threw Hatch and Alfaro a significant distance and both were pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Sergeant Eric Hansen, Grand Prairie police traffic division, said officers investigating the accident determined that Bain was intoxicated and he was arrested at the scene.  A blood speciman was drawn at a hospital to determine Bain's blood-alcohol level.

Bain was arraigned Sunday on two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter and is currently being held in the Grand Prairie City Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond, Sgt Hansen said.

Hatch and Alfaro are Grand Prairie’s 6th and 7th traffic fatalities this year.
