Warriors win in Irving
Senior A. J. Moore was injured on the game’s opening kickoff, the Warriors got behind early, but South Grand Prairie battled back, stopped a late game Irving drive and come away with a 24-22 victory Thursday night in Irving.
Irving took an early lead in the game with a first period touchdown but the Warriors came back with a Jordan Wiggs 40 yard field goal in the second quarter.
The Warriors took the lead in the 3rd quarter when Jared Johnson passed 1 yard to Demetrius Thompson for a touchdown.
Warrior quarterback Jared Johnson widened the margin to 17-7 on a 2 yard run in the fourth quarter.
After Irving came back with a touchdown to close the score to 17-14, Demetrius Thompson broke a 78 yard touchdown run. But Irving came right back returning the Warrior’s kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown cutting the Warrior's lead to 24-20.
Irving forced the Warriors to punt on the next series giving the Tigers another chance to score, but Tyrus McGlothen stopped the drive on the Warrior 1 yard with an interception. Four plays later, Jared Johnson stepped out of the end zone to take a safety and a free kick from the 20 yard line.
The game ended with Irving trying a 55 yard field goal that came up short.
