Increased DWI enforcement this holiday season

The Grand Prairie Police Department announced that additional officers will be on the streets in an effort to apprehend drunk drivers this holiday season. The increased effort began Friday and lasts through January 4.

The additional officers are funded by a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDot) grant to conduct DWI enforcement during this Christmas holiday season, as well as three other target enforcement periods during 2010.

Officers assigned to this duty will have no other responsibilities aside from DWI and traffic enforcement, except for emergencies. This will enable them to focus on this type of enforcement rather than having to answer radio calls.

As many as a half-dozen additional officers could be out on any given night during the enforcement time period.
