Police seek suspect in robbery, shooting

Grand Prairie police are looking for a lone suspect in the Friday night robbery, shooting that that left the victim in critical condition following surgery at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

Juan Vasquez, 33, told police that he and his wife had returned to their home in 500 block of Royal Valley Road around 11:30 p.m. after cashing checks at a local check cashing establishment. When they got out of their car a lone suspect who Vasquez believes followed him from the store, approached and demanded his wallet.

The suspect fled on foot with the wallet.

Vasquez retrieved a box cutter from his car and gave chase.

Police believe Vasquez caught up to the suspect, got his wallet back and was shot in the torso at close range.

Suspect description:

  • Black male
  • 17-20 years-old
  • Red “hoodie”
  • Black pants or jeans
  • Red handkerchief covered lower portion of his face
