Fine art photography exhibit opens at the Uptown
A new art exhibit opened Wednesday at the Uptown Theater featuring the work of photographer Ronnie Gentry, Jr.
For Gentry, the Uptown show is his first art exhibit. He said he does have a few photos on display at places like his former high school.
The near life-long photographer said he took up photography while in elementary school. He drifted away from it for about 5 years but taking first place in the 2004 State Fair of Texas photo contest rekindled his passion for the art.
Gentry, an engineering technician for the City of Grand Prairie, said his technique is to go out, find an object or subject that interests him and figure out a way to photograph it.
“My favorite place in the world is Oregon,” Gentry said. Three of his photos in the exhibit were taken in Oregon.
“The Pacific Northwest is the most picturesque,” he said. “Every time I go to Oregon I see something different.”
Gentry said that he is always looking into new and different photography techniques as well as subjects other than landscapes. He recently purchased some specialized equipment so he can photograph objects such as flowers very close up.
His photographs will be on display in the lobby of the Uptown Theater through April 15.
