Dr. Stephen Ozanne, MD, an orthopedic surgeon on the medical staff of Methodist Health System, was recently installed as the 2010 president of the Dallas County Medical Society.

He and his wife have been married for 31 years, live in Grand Prairie and have two children.

Dr. Ozanne credits his faith and Christian values for developing who he is as a physician, and says that, because of his beliefs, he has more grace and compassion toward his patients. This empathy continues on his overseas mission trips. He recalls a trip to Cambodia as “eye-opening and rewarding.” It was one of his favorite mission trips, and reminded him “how much we have and how much good we can do with very little resources.”

During his installation speech, Dr. Ozanne spoke of two qualities he found refreshing for his heart and spirit as it relates to his calling as a physician-creativity and compassion.

“When we give birth to new ideas to improve the health of our patients or new ways to improve health care delivery, we are giving back to our community a gift that will outlive us," he said. "By creating a meaningful legacy, we can find joy and fulfillment in our work." He adds that thinking of the large numbers of people in need of medical care can seem overwhelming, "Yet, we each have to make a difference, one patient at a time."

The Dallas County Medical Society unites and empowers physicians to support the health of all residents in the metropolitan region. DCMS is a professional organization of approximately 6,400 local physicians, medical students and residents dedicated to serving Dallas area patients.
