Library hosts African-American Heritage Celebration
Grand Prairie's Betty Warmack Branch Library hosted its 6th annual African-American Heritage Celebration Saturday.
The all day event featured:
Rhythm Path Drum Circle, with Facilitator David Cox
David provided an upbeat, energetic hour of music with djembe drums for everyone. A djembe drum is an African hand drum, beautifully carved with a skin stretched tight across the top.
Zora Neale Hurston Film Presentation
Based on the classic by Harlem Renaissance author Zora Neale Hurston, this film about the timeless, lyrical and passionate story of a beautiful and resilient woman's quest for love, sensual excitement and spiritual fulfillment, despite society's expectations of a woman of color in 1920s America, starred Halle Berry.
Milestones in African-American History, with Storyteller De Cee Cornish
Through the art of storytelling, Cornish shared tales of struggle, pain and accomplishment relating to pivotal milestones in African-American history.
