Local business awarded grant from MillerCoors
The MUES program launched in 1999 to stimulate economic growth and development in urban communities, has awarded $1.4 million to emerging minority businesses.
"We are fully invested in helping small businesses succeed, especially given the current economic climate," explains Larry Waters, director of multicultural relations for MillerCoors. "As an industry leader, we recognize that entrepreneurship fuels our economy and ultimately provides economic empowerment and job creation. It is a priority for us to actually provide invaluable resources to urban businesses to help them succeed and not to simply pay lip service."
One of BumbleBee’s partners Malcom Jackson said the one year old firm provides home energy audits and home energy ratings in Dallas - Fort Worth, Austin, and surrounding areas in North and Central Texas. With Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) certified home energy raters, the firm can assign homes a HERS Index rating which is necessary for an ENERGY STAR® qualification.
Jackson explained the audits assess how much energy a home uses and creates an action plan with prioritized recommendations for home improvement based on:
Cost-effectiveness
Payback speed
Immediate impact on the homeowner's energy bills
He added the firm’s goal is to show customers how a home energy audit can help them:
- Become more energy efficient and qualify for the ENERGY STAR®.
- Save money on utility bills by identifying cost-effective home improvements.
- Take advantage of state and federal tax credits and programs such as Energy Efficient and Energy Improvement Mortgages.
Jackson and his business partner Karen DaCosta will be honored during a special reception hosted at MillerCoors' new corporate headquarters in Chicago.
