Diablos ground AirHogs 6-4
The AirHogs’ midseason woes continued Monday as the El Paso Diablos handed the ‘Hogs their fifth straight loss by the score of 6-4.
AirHog starter Ryne Tacker began the night hot, pitching five innings of no-hit ball. The ‘Hogs offense provided the run support scoring two in the third off a fielder’s choice from Joe Spiers and a sacrifice fly from David Espinosa. The two reached base on a single and a walk to begin the inning.
Another fielder’s choice off a double play from Chad Gabriel scored Greg Porter for the ‘Hogs third run of the game.
After the fifth, the wheels began to fall off for the ‘Hogs. The Diablos rallied, scoring six runs in the inning, as Tacker walked three and allowed a single before getting the hook. Another hit batter and a double to center scored the remainder of Tacker’s property closing the book on the starter as he went 5.1 innings giving up four runs on one hit, walking seven and hitting one.
The ‘Hogs were able to manage one more run in the bottom of the seventh as Aaron Garza roped a single into center scoring the runner from second.
Both Grand Prairie hit leaders, Espinosa and Porter, went hitless on the night. The five game losing streak the AirHogs have acquired is the longest of the season to date.
The AirHogs look to break the skid tomorrow for game two against El Paso at QuikTrip Park, starting at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. for “Twilight (Eclipse) Night” with pre-game Blood Drive from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.
