Grand Prairie Wellness Center receives $25,000 emergency grant
“We are deeply grateful to the Meadows Foundation for this significant funding which will help us to continue providing these services to those most in need,” Chuck Poffenbarger, Board President, said. “Each year, the center provided urgent and preventive medical care to more than 7,000 medically vulnerable children, adults and families. About $11,400 a month is needed for medical expenses. Those needs continue to grow.”
Since it's opening in November 2001, the center—located at 1710 Small Street, has served thousands of low-income families with quality medical and dental services totaling over $2.70 Million. Doctors and nurse-practitioners volunteer their time to provide free medical and low-cost dental services to low-income families, with family income at or below the 125% federal poverty guidelines. Volunteers are also used for in variety of positions.
The Meadows Foundation is a private philanthropic institution established in 1948 by Algur H. and Virginia Meadows to benefit the people of Texas. The Foundation's mission is to assist the people and institutions of Texas improve the quality and circumstances of life for themselves and future generations. Since its inception, the Foundation's assets have grown to a current value in excess of $670 million, and it has disbursed over $660 million in grants and direct charitable expenditures to over 2,900 Texas institutions and agencies.
“The economy continues to make it difficult for many of our patients – but also for donors,” Poffenbarger said. “We’re a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation. We operate through the generosity of others. Without the help from foundations, corporations and individual donations, we would never have survived these last couple of years. This grant from The Meadows Foundation will give us a solid boost during the slowest fundraising months.”
