Become a Foster Parent to a Puppy or Kitten

Have a kitten or puppy in your house for up to four weeks by volunteering for the Prairie Paws Animal Shelter foster program. The shelter has preemie kittens and puppies that need to be loved and nurtured before they are ready to be put up for adoption.

Volunteers are asked to attend a 30-minute training session before they are given an animal to care for. A care kit, including food, is sent home with each animal. Care time is about two to four weeks for each animal. Animals must be at least eight weeks old to be available for adoption.

Foster families will be notified when a need exists, may be assigned an animal or may select from the available foster babies. The other animals in the foster home must be current on all vaccinations. Foster families can choose when and when not to foster an animal.
